GE continues to forge ahead with its revolutionary g3, the SF6 alternative for high-voltage equipment, signing two separate contracts.
GE continues to forge ahead with its revolutionary g3, the SF6 alternative for high-voltage equipment, signing two separate contracts.
Scottish Power Energy Networks (SPEN) in the UK has awarded GE with a contract to supply a Gas Insulated Line (GIL) using the g3 solution. The GIL will be installed in the Kilmarnock South Substation, located in the South West of Scotland. This new equipment will save 1.7 tons of SF6, a global warming potential corresponding to approximately 40,000 tons of CO2. It is the second pilot project of this nature in the country after the National Grid project in Sellindge, which is about to be delivered and commissioned, ready for energizing.
In Switzerland, GE will provide Axpo with a F35-145kV Gas Insulated Substation (GIS). Here, instead of SF6, g3 will be used in all components including circuit breakers. Located close to Zurich, this substation will be the first in the world using g3, in line with Axpo’s aim to reduce net greenhouse gas emissions.
